FAQs
How do I join Lambda Chi Alpha?
We recruit year round! The best way to start the recruitment process is to get in touch with one of our Recruitment Chairmen. Their contact info can be found here. Additionally, you can sign up for the IFC recruitment list on their website.
How much will it cost, and what do I get for my money?
Rent averages $3400-3700 per quarter. This covers food, electricity, water, heat, internet access, lodging, hot lunch + dinner 5 days a week, social events, philanthropy, printing/academic supplies, and national fraternity dues. This price is generally cheaper than alternative choices because of the comprehensive nature of our services.
What distinguishes Lambda Chi from other houses?
In 1972, LXA did away with the infamous “pledge” term. Instead, new members are called Associate Members, and are given all of the same rights and responsibilities of a full member. This means they can vote in officer elections, chapter decisions, and get to sit in on chapter meetings beginning on the first day of their membership. In many other fraternities, new members are kept out of the decisions made by the chapter. At Lambdas, every voice matters.
How large is the chapter house?
We have one of the largest fraternity houses at UW (3rd largest by square footage) with four floors, two basements, almost 30 rooms, an interior courtyard, weight room, library, basketball court, underground & alley parking, and capacity for over 80 brothers to comfortably live in.
What philanthropies does LXA host? Where do the proceeds from these go?
Lambda Chi hosts the Watermelon bust every spring. Recently, we host live music events with local artists! The proceeds from these events go towards Feeding America, LXA’s national philanthropy partner.
How does Lambda Chi support the academic success of its members?
At LXA, we strive for academic excellence and have a diverse range of majors among our brothers. We maintain our academic standards through tracked study hours at our in-house library (which remains quiet during midterm and finals season). In our library, we have a store of used textbooks from many of the foundational courses at UW which can be used by any member at any time. On top of this, we maintain a bank of old tests and quizzes for those same classes which help our members prepare for Midterm/Final season. Our Academic Chairman is in charge of keeping the library stocked with scantrons, bluebooks, and keeping the printer up-and-running. He also sets up a reward system to incentivize Academic performance. Members who are not meeting the academic threshold will not be allowed to participate in social or philanthropic events..
We understand that every student is at UW to earn an education. Lambda Chi Alpha aims to give its members good study habits and opportunities to succeed in their time at the University of Washington.
As a freshman, what should I expect out of my living situation?
In a normal year, we would place you with one other new member in a room. If you are placed with two other new members, you will be given a second room to use as a recreation space. As you rise in seniority at the fraternity, you will have access to single-person rooms.
